Signs Mark the Way
Today I walked the first stage of my first Camino. Wow. What a great experience.
Along the way a variety of blazes greet peregrinos to point the way: granite pillars engraved with a shell and arrow; stones piled in the dirt; blue signposts with the yellow arrow; and even yellow arrows graffitied on lampposts and stop signs.
These signs do not appear everywhere, yet they appear at every important bifurcation or crossroad when you could go multiple ways. Yet the signs do not make the decision for you. They point the way, yet you still choose which way you walk. If you think you know better than the signs how to get to the next town you can try to take that way.
It made me think (and I still have more journaling to do to articulate this thought better) about life. Often we have choices to make, and the signs can exist, yet we have to decide what we will do. Circumstances inviting forgiveness or love — we know what will give health and healing, yet some times we think we know better, and we hold on to grudges or withhold love.
I hope this pilgrimage will help me choose to walk in the way that leads to life - each and every day.
