Day 4: Villar de Farfón to Cernadilla to Asturianos (34KM)

The three of us (Davide, Edith and I) left just before dusk this morning - what great weather we’ve had so far! Davide said he wanted to walk at least 30KM today. Edith and I both wanted to do a little less, so we walked together for a bit, and then in Mombuey, after 16KM, we said goodbye. The albergue in Mombuey was closed, so we said we could continue on for a bit more to where the guide said we could find another albergue 8KM away. When we arrived in Cernadilla, we found this albergue closed, too. Tired and disappointed we tried to gather energy to move on, when we experienced some wonderful, unexpected hospitality - I’ll write another post about that. After the renewed energy, Edith and I pushed on for another couple of hours and arrived in Asturianos. I should mention the two things slowing us down: one, Edith had some blisters on her toes; two, I had gotten bit by bed bugs in Tabara, and the itching and thoughts of “are they gone, did I get rid of them, will I encounter them in the next town...” drained my energy. Arriving in Asturianos we had the great surprise of seeing Paul, George, Rene, and Davide. They had a plan to continue, yet for some reason they decided to stop. How great to be greeted by familiar faces after an unexpected long journey. The albergue in Asturianos belonged to the sporting hall in town, which had a gun club associated with it. We discovered this by almost spilling our drinks the first time we heard the gunshots 100 meters away just up the hill from us. The six of us decided to depart in the morning around 6:45 or 7AM. So, off to bed. Until next time, Buen Camino!
