Day 5: Asturianos to Puebla de Sanabria (15KM)
Today I said goodbye to my five new friends. We walked together for a bit this morning, and stopped for coffee about 2½ hours into the walk. I’m staying in Puebla because Don arrived from Madrid this afternoon. I went to the pharmacy, bought some spray and cream to help with the bed bugs, and then went around town to explore. I tried to take in cars and traffic and buildings and noise. I missed walking on the trail. While I would not consider this a big town, it is by far the largest I’ve seen since I started walking. I returned to the albergue to wash my clothes in hot water (most albergues just have cold water in the wash basins). As I just finished hanging up my clothes to dry, a head popped around the corner, and it was Don! What a nice surprise. After a shower and getting him settled in, we went for a walk around town, toured the old castle, got Don his first stamp in his peregrino credential, and bought some groceries for dinner. I can’t believe the first phase of my journey is over. I’m looking forward to the next few days walking with Don. Until next time, Buen Camino!
